If you do just one thing a month to change the safety mind-set, in one year you will have done 12 things to raise safety awareness.

THIS MONTH: ‘MILK BOTTLE’ HUNT

Old milk or cool drink bottles, food containers, paint tins and other containers are often used for storing chemicals. This is a most dangerous practice !

Do a ‘milk bottle’ hunt at your facility and confiscate all such containers. Collect them in one central location, take a photo, then distribute it to all staff.

Highlight this as an unacceptable and dangerous practice and supply correctly labelled and suitable containers.

Encourage staff to do ‘milk bottle’ hunts at home too. Many accidents and incidents can be attributed to children drinking paraffin and kerosene because they assume a soft drink bottle = cold drink, not poison.
